Happy New Year to everyone! We had a good start to the new showing year. Lewis and I travelled to Cupar for St. Andrews, Cupar and District's Limit show on the 7th. It's a lovely friendly show. We just took Ruby, as she and Lewis need some practice for Crufts! To our, well my, surprise, she got Best of Breed in the PBGV class!. Thanks go to Jim Linden (Bruadair) for this.
Not far to go today for a show. Just across the bridge to Invergordon for Highland Canine Association's limit show. Oscar did me very proud by getting BOB. Ruby did well too by getting a second in the NSC Hound Open class
The pups are now 6 months old so can start going to shows! Let the Mayhem begin!!!!!
We went to the Jack Kane Centre outside Edinburgh for their first show. Amber did exceptionally well by getting second in the Hound Minor Puppy class, out of 15! Scarlett out did her though by winning her Puppy class and going through to Best Puppy in Show. She didn't get placed, but showed really well for Lewis! Good work girls!.
Well, what a great weekend we had! We met up with friends both old and new!
Ruby was the only one entered, everyone else went on their holidays!
Lewis handled her in the Special Junior Bitch class and got a wonderful Second!!!! Words don't really describe how proud we all are of them both! See pictures on the Junior Handling page. Roll on next year!
Just a short trip across the bridge to the Black Isle Showground for Ross and Cromarty open show. We had 4 dogs with us today!! The pups had their first outside show and provided plenty entertainment for the crowd!!! However, they did us very proud indeed. Both girls were entered in the Beagle PG class. Scarlett won it (much to my surprise!!) and Amber was second! Lewis then took Ruby into the NSC class. She couldn't keep 4 feet on the ground so got a second, much to our amusement ringside!!! Then the sisters went into the puppy classes. Amber won the Minor puppy class and Scarlett won the puppy class, meaning they went head to head for best Hound Puppy, which Scarlett duly won!! Thank you to Drew Littlejohn for his unending patience with our rascals!!!!!
Hound Assocation of Scotland weekend, in Kelso. This is a lovely show and except for the occasional hailstone shower, we were very lucky with the weather!
We had 4 dogs with us again, Oscar was NFC but the girls had to work for their dinner! The pups were in minor puppy bitch. Neither was placed but showed very well. Ruby was second in her Junior Bitch class and loved every minute of it! Again Lewis was the star of the weekend. At the last minute he decided to take Scarlett into the YKC class, instead of Ruby. This may have paid off, as they won the class, qualifying him for the final at Crufts 2013!
May will be a quieter month as we have only entered the one champ show, phew!!!!!!
14th - 16th
We ventured off for a two day holiday to Lanark and Kelso for the Scottish Beagle Club and Border Union shows. This is the third year running we have stayed at the Scottish Equestrian centre and can't recommend it highly enough!!
On the Saturday, we had the SBC show where Frank Kane was judging. Mr Kane judged BIS at Crufts this year, so a very well known face indeed! We had the girls entered in the Puppy class and to our delight Scarlett got 3rd out of 5, qualifying her for Crufts 2013!! Wee Amber was 5th!!!!
On the Sunday we had Ruby and the pups at Border Union! Well, what weather - absolutely awful! However, the show must go on!! Ruby's class clashed with the Beagle puppy bitch class, so Lewis took Scarlett in and got another 3rd out of 5!! Qualified again under Serena Parker (Serenaker)! Ruby won her Post Graduate class in the worst downpour of the day! I think she may have been wetter than me!!
We decided to head for home straight after our classes so made in time for tea!
We had entered Blackpool on the 23rd of the month, but had decided not to go. Luckily we made this decision before the show had to be cancelled due to adverse weather!
We had a quiet month just going to Highland Open Show in Dingwall. A nice day, outside. The pups did quite well. Amber was second in the PG Beagle class, thanks to her judge who was very complimentary - looking forward to THAT critique!!!! Ruby won her NSC Hound class but went no further. Both myself and Lewis handled Saluki's for a new found friend and really enjoyed it! Maybe another breed to look at in the future!!
another relatively quiet month, just one Champ show. We went to Stafford for The Houndshow. We were there last year and really enjoyed it. The 3 girls came for the trip. Ruby was up first in the PG Bitch class under Jeff Pepper from the USA. Lewis and her got an excellent second place. The pups were in their class soon after. Amber got placed VHC and Scarlett who couldn't keep all her feet on the ground together was unplaced!! The highlight of the day was the scent test, run by the Midland Basset Hound club. Amber excelled at the test. The examiner said that she was the best he had ever had in the novice class! Her sister did well too!!
We are having this month off.............................!!
a quiet month for champ shows, but we attended 2 open shows near Glasgow. The first was the Scottish Beagle Club open show. Our Beagles behaved well under judge Kristen Theobald with Scarlett being placed VHC in the Junior class. It was a nice show at a new venue, thanks to the hard working committee!
The second open show we attended was Hound Association of Scotland, also near Glasgow. We took all the girls with us today. Our friend and former "Beagler" Sue Fraser came down as Lewis was golfing. Sue handled Scarlett in the Beagle class getting a respectable 4th, with Amber getting a good 3rd. Ruby was then in the well attended PG PBGV class and duly won it!! She went up against Rave, the eventual winner and BOB, in the challenge. Well done Dianne! Many thanks go to Stephen Jepson for his decisions and advice!
This has been our most successful month in dog showing since we started! I travelled to the the BGV Club's champ show in Warwickshire with Linda Mackenzie (Limier). The show coincided with the World Congress. This brought lovers of the breed from all corners of the world. There were many interesting talks and presentations during the weekend. Not to mention the entertainment and dinner on the Saturday.
The highlight for me was on the Saturday morning.........
Ruby was in the PG Bitch class with 8 other bitches. Our judge, Nick Frost (Dhera) really put us through our paces. Round and round the ring we went!! Eventually he began pulling dogs out to be placed., in reverse order - this I did not know until afterwards!! So we were pulled out last, much to my dissappointement!! However, we were placed at the beginning of the line up and made to run around again! With much huffing and puffing we came to a halt and the decision was made............Ruby was 1st!! I couldn't believe it!! We were given a beautiful commemorative cushion, a bag of food, other bags of goodies and of course the coveted red rosette! So, winning this class meant we had to return for the bitch challenge. This happened after all the other judging. Again, like the first class we ran round and round the ring. Mr Frost pulled various bitches out for the crowd to look at. He had them freestanding in pairs..........very American I believe!! Ruby was pulled out to do this with Jilly (Soletrader Peek a Boo) who holds the title of Top Dog all Breeds 2012. Ruby had a great time, standing for some of it and bouncing for the rest! She gave the crowd and the judge a good laugh!
So, we went back to our places and round we went again................Jilly was pulled out for the CC then around we went again..............then wee Ruby who was still bouncing was pulled out for the RCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an amazing day - one never to be forgotten!
Massive thanks go to Gavin and Sara for allowing us to have the wee scruff bag and of course to Nick Frost for his appreciation of Ruby!
Roll on LKA!!
