                                News

                                January 2011

After many, many months waiting, we have finally got our newest arrival.  Her name is Ruby and she is a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (PBGV) for short!  Her official title is Soletrader Poker Face.  If you go to the "Our Dogs" page you will find out more about her.

                                February

We didn't have to travel far to our first show of the year, just across the Kessock Bridge to Alness.  All the Beagles came to support a local show.  I handled Aston and got 2nd in the Graduate Beagle class.  I then handled Oscar in the Open and Lewis handled Maisie.  To our amazement Maisie won the class - about 18 months since her last show!  Then to top off a lovely win, she got Best of Breed too!  Who says you can't keep an old dog down??!  A lovely start to the show season.

                                March

Off to Birmingham we trotted, for the Dog World's highlight of the year - Crufts!  It was a long drive, 8 hours but Lewis is good company and a great navitagor!  We arrived at our Travelodge and settled in for the next day's events.
We got to the NEC nice and early to get ourselves organised.
Lewis handled Aston in the YKC Final.  She was particulary badly behaved!  Lewis coped remarkably well, but didn't get placed.  Just qualifying is an achievement, so we were still happy!
We stayed to watch the groups and we are so glad we did!  Ruby's relative, Soletrader Peek a Boo (Jilly) won the hound group!  What an atmosphere there was in the main arena, it was amazing!
We went back to our Travelodge happy!
Hopefully we will get back to Crufts next year, but will it be with a Beagle or a PBGV........?

                                May

Ruby turned 6 months this month, making her old enough to enter the show ring!  We went down the road to Kirkcaldy Open Show as a wee practice for the bigger shows.  She did very well at her first outing.  She won her Minor Hound Puppy class, much to my surprise.  She then went on to get 3rd place in the Hound Puppy Group!  A wonderful start for her!!  Oscar's breeder was there and kindly took some lovely photos of her inside and outside of the ring.  These can be seen in our show gallery
Oscar also did very well!!  As there is no Beagle class at this show, he had to enter the NSC class.  There were 18 dogs and Oscar boy was 3rd out of them all!  Well done my boy!!!
Next stop is Scottish Junior Handler of the year at Ingliston followed by SKC the day after.............

                                19th and 20th May
We went to Edinburgh on the 19th of this month, for Lewis to take part in the Scottish Junior Handler of the year.  He handled Maisie and did a great job.  It was a great night, as always.
On the 20th we took part in the first of the Scottish Kennel Club's, Championship shows.  We had a great day, despite getting soaked on the way in!  Lewis took Ruby into the YKC Stakes class and got a respectable third place.  It was the first time he has handled Ruby, so a great result.  He also had Maisie entered in the JH Association and YKC Handling classes.  He wasn't placed in either of these, but did a good job.  Ruby had a great day by getting placed 2nd in the Junior Bitch PBGV class.  She was the youngest in the class and has now qualified for Crufts 2012.  Click here and have a look at the pictures from the day.
                                28th
We had a local show this weekend.  Off to Lossiemouth for Banff, Moray and Nairn's Open show.  Ruby was entered in the NSC Graduate class, and to my surprise won!!  Despite being very badly behaved!  She also won her AV Hound Puppy class, beating lots of lovely pups.  Thanks to our judge, Helen Adams.  The Beagles did well too, Oscar won a reserve in the Open breed class with Maisie beating him to a third in the same class.

                                .June

We had a weekend away in Lanark and Kelso for shows.  The Border Union champ show is held in Kelso.  Just Ruby was entered here and got a third in the puppy class.  Qualified for Crufts again!
The day after, the Scottish Beagle Club hold their Champ show, in Lanark.  Oscar was VHC in a very strong Limit class, behind the eventual CC and BIS winner!!
It was great to catch up with friends!  See you all next year, I'm sure............!

                                July

We took most of the month off as both girls were in season!  However we entered Highland Open Show as it's our local one and we like to support it.
Oscar got a respectable 3rd in the Beagle Open class.  Maisie missed out as she was still in season!!!  Ruby was the star of our day though, as she got 3rd out of 10 in her NSC Graduate class.  She then went into the AV Hound Minor Pup class and won it.  We then went up against the winner of the AV Hound Puppy class and also won that.  This allowed her to compete for Best Puppy in Show, where she was reserve, behind a lovely Pointer.  We had a super day, with friends.  Thanks go to our judges.  Hopefully there will be critiques in the weeks to follow.

                                August

The Hound Show in Stafford was our first stop of the month.  We made the 8 hour journey on the Friday, so that we would be fresh on the Saturday.  The weather stayed dry, thankfully!
Ruby and Lewis were first up in the Junior Handling Association class.  They got a very respectable 4th out of 11 entries.  I then got my turn in the Minor Puppy Bitch class with Ruby.  To my amazement she won the class!!
Needless to say, we floated our way home!

Next stop will be SKC at the end of the month...........................

28th - we made the rather shorter journey to Ingliston for SKC.  Ruby was the only one being shown today but was in a Not Separately Classified (NSC) class as there was no breed class for her.  She was awarded a 4th out of 7 entries.  Lewis handled her in the Junior Handling classes but went unplaced this time!

                                September

We entered City of Birmingham with Ruby but were unable to attend as Maisie decided this would be the weekend she would have her pups!  Not to worry, as she had 3 lovely tri girls safe and sound at home.  There will always be another show!!

                                October

                                1st
Lewis and I went to Driffield Champ show with Ruby this weekend.  This would be her last class as a Puppy..........and she finished her puppy-hood in fine style!  Even after rolling on the ground in front of our Judge, she still managed to win the Puppy Bitch class.  She then went up against the Puppy Dog winner, and was declared Best Puppy in Breed!!!  Huge thanks to Serena Parker (Serenaker) for this win and her un-ending patience!

                                November

                                19th and 20th

Myself and Lewis travelled to Honiley, just south of Birmingham to attend the BGV club Champ show.  It was an enjoyable weekend at our first breed club show with our Petit!!   Ruby got a respectable reserve placing in her first class out of puppy under Mark Cocozza.  Lewis handled Cozee, (Limier Dahlia) in the Junior Handling at got second.
We are looking forward to next year's event as it will be the UK's turn to hold the World Congress - it promises to be a big event!!

                                December

Although there are shows this month, we tend not to go, as the weather is usually a bit tricky at this time of year!!  So.....we have had this month off cuddling puppies and grooming Ruby in preparation for next year's shows which start on January the 7th with St. Andrews, Cupar and District.  See you there!!!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our Beagly, Peeby and Doggie show friends!!
